Our English for English Speakers classes are for children ages 5 - 18 who attend local schools and speak English at home with at least one parent.  They are also appropriate for non-English speaking children who have gone to school in an English-speaking environment.

Days and Times

Therwil: Classes in Therwil meet weekly 1, 1.5 or 2 hours.

Riehen: Classes in Riehen meet weekly  for 1 or 1.5 hours.

Our goals

We teach fundamental skills for fluent and effective communication including:

• confident speaking

• reading for understanding

• spelling

• grammar

• punctuation 

• writing with purpose

Our Reading Program

Our reading assistant reads one-on-one with our emergent readers and younger children to promote confidence and accuracy in reading.  Children receive a new reading book from our library every week so they can practice reading  at home with their parents.

Homework

The children achieve such impressive results in our short classroom time, and parents can help significantly by working with their children at home as well.  Homework is set on a regular basis, usually in the form of reading, practising for spelling tests or extra practise of work done in class.  Children will assimilate new information much faster through repetition and practise at home.
